The Damascus United Methodist Church members were responsible for helping the Asbury Home Guild again this year. During December, 2007, we collected 249 gifts for the Wilson Health Care Center and the Kindley Building Christmas Parties. Elf Day was the day when all the gifts were divided up for each individual resident. Several people helped out at Asbury during the month of February when we solicited memberships for the Guild. We collected $354.00 from 18 families.
Our Church continues to staff the Gift Shop at the Wilson Health Care Center each Wednesday morning from 10 am - 12 noon., except for the 4th Wednesday. As coordinator, Tina Soule makes sure one of the following persons is on duty each time. On the 1st Wednesday of the month Marilyn Kinsey and Fran Ray are on duty, the 2nd Wednesday has Bill Walcott, the 3rd Wednesday has Sherry Lloyd and Jeanie Mihalko, and the 5th Wednesday has Harriet Gladhill. Tina is always available to substitute. We could use a few more volunteers. There is also another Gift shop at the Health and Wellness Building staffed by Guilders. Drop in for a visit and see the wonderful items for sale. Birthday Parties are held for the Kindley Building residents on the 3rd Thursday and for the Wilson Health Care Center on the 4th Wednesday. Individual Birthday gifts are provided by the Guild each month.
By becoming a member of Asbury Home Guild, Damascus Church members help the Guild pay for birthday gifts, special outings, volunteer projects, and contributions for the Benevolent Care Fund when extra funds are needed by residents to have special treats.
We did fair this year as far as contributions, but I hope that more people will join the Guild next year from Damascus. Watch for the envelopes in a bulletin in February, 2009. Remember, your help is always needed.
Thanks to all the members of Damascus who volunteer and support this good work.
