Church & Society - Charting A New Course

With fall, the end of summer in sight, and Labor Day just ahead, here are some thoughts from the UM Connection on “Charting a New Course.”

“Appreciative Inquiry is a process that allows people and groups to move from where they are to where they wish to be in a manner that focuses on the positive. Too often, the geography of change finds us bogged down in controversy and unrealistic, wishful thinking. Appreciative Inquiry revels in creativity, imagination and potential.

“When making decisions or plotting a course for the future, Appreciative Inquiry encourages people to start with what energizes them, to build on their strengths and to open themselves to possibility.”

So here’s the question for all of us to ponder as we think about the start of a new church year – “As individuals, what is it that energizes us, what are our strengths?” Are we ready to put them at God’s disposal and make them available to our faith community? And if we do, what new possibilities are out there?
