Walking Together to “Help the Homeless”

In newspaper accounts, day after day, we read about conflicts between Muslims, Jews and Christians. It is easy some times to give in to the idea that nothing can be done to change the century’s old hatred and strife that leads to the killing and maiming of so many. On November 17th, we will have a chance, in a small but significant way, to change that perception.

For a number of years, members of DUMC have participated in the DC “Help the Homeless Walkathon.” We have taken part in an event that raises many thousands of dollars for homeless shelters in the DC area.

This year, we have invited members of the Islamic Center of Maryland and the Hevrat Shalom Synagogue to join us on this walk. We will witness to everyone watching that people of different faiths can work together to bring help where help is desperately needed. To join us, go to the DUMC website, and download the form with Rick Barr’s name on it. This will make it possible for his employer, Fannie Mae, to contribute $50 on your behalf to the “Help the Homeless” campaign. Bring the form to the Fannie Mae Tent on the day of the walkathon. See you there.
