Damascus United Methodist Church, as part of the body of Christ, strives to be God's channel of expression in our Damascus neighborhood and in our global community. We are from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. We have various strengths, gifts, scars, prejudices, and dreams. We are appreciative of our centuries-old heritage but are receptive to new aspirations of outreach and service.
WORSHIP
The weekly gathering for worhip is the center of our corporate life, where we seek to interpret the biblical Word for contemporary times. Through the sacraments, scripture, prayer, and study, we are called to open our hearts and minds to the presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst, to dedicate our lives to Christ, and thus become empowered for our daily lives.
NURTURE
We are called to exercise our faith by following the teachings of Jesus Christ, prayerfully sheperding, educating, and activating every member, and reaching out in love to those in the broader community.
WITNESS
We recognize that we are not justified in doing anything, individually or as a church, unless our action is a manifestation of our faith in Christ and his teachings. Through our personal actions and parish programs, we extend this witness to our church family, our local and extended community, and our brothers and sisters throughout the world.
JUSTICE
Christian love calls us to do justice in our daily lives, becoming sensitized to the needs of the world and thus moved to take our actions to eliminate root causes of social, economic, and political injustice, wherever it occurs.
As a community of faith, united in our crucified and risen Savior, we seek to allow His life, through us, to make our community and the world a better place for all people.
