2009 Holiday Giving Project

Faith Connections and Damascus Help are asking our support of the Holiday Giving Project for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays for the Damascus area. This normally includes a holiday meal for Thanksgiving and a December Holiday meal and gifts. Last year our congregation sponsored over 34 families! This is a great opportunity to share the joy of Christ with someone in need. Please prayerfully consider supporting the Holiday Giving Project this year.

If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays, please call Diana or Tom Conger at (301)831-3453 or email at ten.knilhtrae|regnocid#ten.knilhtrae|regnocid.

What Goes Into a Holiday Basket

A "Holiday Basket" is meant to be all the fixings of a holiday meal for a family. It is a festive gift to help make the holidays brighter for families in need. Your Holiday Basket can be a turkey and all the traditional trimmings, a grocery store gift certificate, or some combination of food and a gift certificate. A December Holiday Basket also includes toys and gifts for members in the family. The traditional Holiday Basket is a box and or grocery bags including the following:

Sample Holiday Basket - Serves up to 8 people.

1 15-20 pound turkey OR a grocery store gift certificate
5 pounds of potatoes
5 large sweet potatoes
1 pound of carrots
3 pounds of onions
1 bag of celery
3 pounds of oranges or apples
3 16 ounce cans of gravy
2 16 ounce cans of jellied cranberry sauce

3 16 ounce cans of green beans, corn or peas
2 boxes of stuffing mix
Bread or dinner rolls
1 pound box of butter or margarine
1 gallon of milk
1 dozen of eggs
1 64 ounce container of juice
1 large pumpkin pie/other dessert
Heavy duty aluminum foil pan for turkey

Make sure you consider time with your donation: time for thawing if you are providing a frozen turkey, time for shopping if you are presenting a gift certificate. Consider the person or family being referred, e.g., any dietary issues. A senior citizen living on his or her own needs a smaller “basket”. Also a family with children may need snacks and breakfast food since children will be home for the holidays.

Thanksgiving meals should be delivered on November 19 - 22. The December Holiday meal and gifts should be delivered on December 20 - 22.
