About Us
We are licensed by Montgomery County as a Private Educational Institution and are registered by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Private Religious Preschool. All of our teachers have been trained in Early Childhood education. They attend monthly staff meetings and professional workshops to further enhance their classrooms and curriculum.
Our Classes
Our curriculum focuses on the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and academic growth of our students. A typical day consists of varied activities including art, cooking, fine and gross motor skills, literature, music, science and social studies, as well as readiness skills for reading and mathematics. Each weeks' literature, art projects, songs, guest speakers, games, writing activities and more will all relate to the letter of the week. We strive to provide a well balanced curriculum with plenty of time to play and learn. Pleasant Plains offers 3's, 4's and Pre-K classes. They meet in the morning and afternoon, two, three or five times per week. Our 4's have the option of extending their school day through lunch time. We are proud of our small class sizes which allow for much individualized attention.
Our Facility
Each of our classrooms have been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. We are fortunate to also have use of the entire Church building and grounds. We have a fenced-in playground and take the children outside whenever possible. When we are celebrating a special occasion, we can use the Church Pavilion, Great Hall, or Dining Hall, in order to celebrate in style. All classes participate weekly in a short chapel service in the main Church Sanctuary. Parents, family members, and friends, are invited to our Christmas, Easter and Graduation chapel services to see what the children have been learning. The chapel service is a time to hear stories from the Bible and learn of God's love for us through pictures and songs. All classes also participate in a special monthly music class which includes the use of different rhythm instruments.
Other
We extend an invitation to all of our parents to become a part of the classroom. We encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom, attend our parties, and join us on field trips. Field trips are taken by the entire school in the Fall and Spring. Often parents or community members visit our classrooms to share their exciting careers or hobbies. Parent conferences are scheduled for each child in January and provide an excellent time to discuss a child's progress. The director and teachers send home monthly newsletters and calendars.
